Photography: Google Earth
Technology Review (a technical magazine published by MIT) has an excellent article on the technology behind Google Earth - the satellites, the airplanes, the corrections (filtering), elevation mapping, data streaming, et al.
Researcher, engineer, and lecturer in audio and video forensics, sensors, and signal processing.
Education: Electrical Engineer (MSEE, Clemson University, 1986) with signal processing background.

Here is some amazing google earth sights.
Although it doesn't get as much press mileage, for places in the UK, the images are way crisper in Microsoft's offering (http://maps.live.com/).
Balances out for how bad Vista is I guess ;)!
